Movie: PK
Music: Shantanu Moitra
Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire
Singer: Sonu Nigam
Music Label: T-Series
A song about a person who is looking for God, doing the best he can do in life, and yet not getting what he wishes for, as he desperately asks God where He is.
Probably The best, and certainly the most intense song of PK, 'Bhagwaan..' sounds a little like Jaane nahi denge tujhe from 3 Idiots, but the subject is different, Swanand Kirkire's lyrics are lovely again, and hence, the overall offering is very different. Sonu Nigam finds yet another gem, something close to Abhi Mujh mein kahin in terms of intensity and of course, he sings it wonderfully. Must listen, highly recommended.
Hai suna ye poori dharti tu chalata hai
Meri bhi sun le araj, mujhe ghar bulaata hai
Bhagwan hai kahaan re tu, aye khuda hai kahan re tu
I've heard that you run the whole world,
Listen to my prayer too, my home calls me,
O Lord, where are you? O God, where are you?
Hai suna tu bhatke mann ko raah dikhata hai
Main bhi khoya hoon mujhe ghar bulata hai
Bhagwaan hai kahaan re tu, aye khuda hai kahan re tu
I have heard that you show the path to the lost hearts,
I am lost too, my home calls me back..
O Lord, where are you? O God, where are you?
Main pooja karoon, ya namaazein padhoon
Ardaas karoon din rain
Na tu mandir mile, na tu girje mile
Tujhe dhoondhein thake mere nain
Should I worship you (like Hindus do), or should I offer you a namaaz (like Muslims do)
Should I offer an ardaas
(like Sikhs do, all of these religions are not mentioned explicitly, and the meaning here is not specific to these religions, but the point made is about that a man simply doesn't know what he can do to find you.)
You are neither found in the temple, nor in the Church,
my tired eyes look for you...
Tujhe dhoondhein thake mere nain
Tujhe dhoondhen thake mere nain
Jo bhi rasmein hai wo saari, main nibhaata hoon
In karoDon ki tarah main sir jhukata hoon
Bhagwan hai kahan re tu, aye khuda hai kahan re tu
all the customs that are there (to find you), I follow them all,
I bow my head to you, like these crores, [crore = 10 million]
O Lord, where are you? O God, where are you?
Tere naam kayi, tere chehre kayi
Tujhe paane ki raah hain kai..
Har raah chala, par tu na mila
Tu kya chaahe main samjha nahi
You have many names, you have many faces,
there are many ways to find you..
I walked on all those paths, but couldn't find you..
I didn't understand what is it that you want..
Soche bin samjhe jatan karta hi jaata hoon
Teri zid sar-aankhon par rakh ke nibhaata hoon
Bhagwan hai kahan re tu, aye khuda hai kahaan re tu
I keep on trying, without thinking or understanding,
I follow your insistence with all due respect..
O Lord, where are you? O God, where are you?
[Though not explicitly said, the first line of the above paragraph can be interpreted as following the Bhagwadgita, which asks you to keep on doing your duty, without worrying or thinking about the results. Here the protagonist too says that he keeps on trying, following the customs and ways to find God, though here he seems to have lost his patience as he desperately asks God where He is.]
Hai suna, ye poori dharti tu chalata hai
Meri bhi sun le araj, mujhe ghar bulata hai
Bhagwan hai kahan re tu, aye khuda hai kahan re tu
Bhagwan hai kahan re tu, aye khuda hai kahan re tu..

Love is a Waste of Time Lyrics Translation | PK
Movie: PK
Music: Shantanu Moitra
Lyrics: Amitabh Varma
Singer: Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal
Music Label: T-Series
Due to non-existence of 'v' sound in Bengali and close languages/dialects, 'v' and 'w' are often spoken as a very strong 'b', more like 'bh' instead, and many times, this tendency continues with English words as well. The same accent has been used here, and hence, 'waste' sounds like 'bhe-ist' here.
Tujhe tak tak tak takte rehna
Teri bak bak bak sunte rehna
Kaam-kaaj sab bhool bhula ke
tere peechhe peeche chalte rehna
ee to hai waste of time
Love is a waste of time
Pyaar vyaar waste of time
Ee love is waste of time
Looking at you continuously,
Keeping on listening to your jibber-jabber..
forgetting all th work,
and keeping on just following you..
This is watse of time..
Love is a waste of time..
Love etc. is waste of time..
This love is a waste of time..
Phir bhi soch liya hoon man maa
Ek baar to is jeevan maa
Kar le bhaste of time
Karna hai bhaste of time
I want to bheist my time
Love is bhest of time
Still, I have thought inwardly,
that once in my lifetime,
I can go for waste of time..
I want to waste my time..
Love is a waste of time..

O Kamini Lyrics Translation | Rang Rasiya
Movie: Rang Rasiya
Music: Sandesh Shandilya
Lyrics: Manoj Muntashir
Singer: Sonu Nigam
Starring: Randeep Hooda, Nandana Sen
Music Label: Zee Music Company
Yaad hai apna pehla milan
Srishti ka wo pehla saavan
Tu yugon ki pyaasi dharti thi
Tujhe prem ke baadal ghere thhe
Tere tapte huye tan pe
Jo jhare wo meghdoot sab mere thhe
O kamini, o kaamini
Do you remember our first meeting,
That first rain of the creation [the universe],
You were the earth, thirsty for eras,
and clouds of love had you all covered,
On your heated up body,
The cloud-messengers that rained, were all mine..
O amorous woman.. O attractive woman..
[Kaamini can be a name as well, but I've used the meaning of the word here.]
Tere tan mandir mein, mera mann khoya
Jaaga sapna soya soya
Bade luteray naina tore
Sudh-budh main to bhool gayo re
Ek lachak mein, sau hilore
Jogan bhaag jagaa de more
O kaamini..
In the temple of your body, my heart got lost.
The sleeping dream awoke..
Your eyes are looters,
I have lost my mind,
In one stretch, you create hundreds of waves (in me)
O maiden, make my luck,
O loving woman..
Kaaya teri, maaya darpan
Ye Indradhanush tujh ko arpan
Aa odh loon tujhko o bairan
Jaise dharti odhe neel-gagan
Hum milenge ye tab se tai tha
Jab chamak nahi thi taaron mein
Na soch ye neeti kya kehti hai
Aa beh ja meri dhaaron mein
O Kamini..
Your body is the mirror of maya [or illusion]
I dedicate this rainbow to you..
Come, O enemy, I want to cover myself with you,
The way the earth covers itself with the blue sky,
We'd meet, this was decided,
ever since there was no shine in the stars.
[i.e. ever since the beginning of time.]
Don't think what the morality says,
Come, flow in my streams..
O loving woman..
