Movie: Shamitabh
Music: Ilaiyaraja
Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire
Singer: Amitabh Bachchan

Piddly is an English word which means meager, trivial, little, not worth caring about.
Piddly si baatein kyun karti ho sharma ke
Piddly si baatein
Piddly iraade main sach karoon aate jaate
Piddly iraade
Why do you say piddly things, feeling shy,
Such piddly things..
I make true such piddly intentions,
piddly intentions..
Pagla hoon yaar ya pagla hai pyaar
Aise chalta hai ye kaarobaar
Pyaar ke saaye mein sab piddly hain yaar
Whether I am mad or love is mad,
This is how this business works.
In the shadow of love everything is piddly oh my friend
Piddly si baatein kyun karti ho sharma ke
Piddly si baatein
Khili khili soorat teri
Uske aage sab hain piddly piddly
Mili mili aisi khushi
Iske aage sab hain piddly piddly
Your happy face
In front of it, everything else is piddly..
I've got such happiness
Compared to it, everything is piddly..
Lab ke lifaafon mein jo likhi hain marziyaan
Chupke se sun-ne mein hi hai mazaa
Lafzon ke kabzon mein jo chhupi hain chaahatein
Aankhon se padhne mein hi hai nasha
Nashe ke saaye mein sab piddly hain yaar
The wishes that are written in the envelopes of lips
It's fun to listen to them in hiding only..
The love that is hidden, captured by words,
There is an intoxication in reading it through eyes only
In the shadow of intoxication everything is piddly my friend..
Piddly si baatein kyun karti ho sharma ke
Piddly si baatein
Piddly iraade main sach karun aate jaate
Piddly iraade
Vaade muraadein yay hey…
Promises, wishes, yay hey..

Dil Darbadar (PK) Lyrics Translation | PK
Movie: PK
Music, Singer: Ankit Tiwari
Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire [Unconfirmed]
Music Label: T-Series
One very different song from PK, different from the other songs of the movie that is, composed and sung by Ankit Tiwari. I am not sure if this was intentional, but the song to me seems a little Sufi in nature, as the object being addressed by the protagonist, though not clear who, seems to be God from some lines, and yet he considers the addressed his friend. Hope the song will be more clear when the movie/video is out. Till then though, listen to the song for Ankit's typical music enhanced with some anyway beautiful and touching lyrics.
Hai maun mein doobi duniya
Tera kissa kaun sunaaye
Jo kahe, tujhe na jaane
Jo jaane, keh na paaye
The world is drowned in silence (because of the sadness)
Who would tell your story..
Who tells (your story) doesn't know you,
and who knows, cannot say it..
[It mostly means that those who have known you are so sad because of your leaving them that they cannot tell your story.]
Khwaabon ka musafir namaazi na kaafir
Saaiyaan ye bata de kahan hoon main aakhir
Ye kaisi hai teri aankh michauli
Mujhe ghar le ja humjoli
Dil darbadar mera dil darbadar
A traveller of dreams, neither a devotee, nor an unbeliever..
O Lord, tell me where I am..
How is this hide and seek of yours,
Take me home, O my friend..
My heart seeks refuge..
[darbadar, literally meaning door-to-door, is used to signify someone who wanders one place to another, hoping for a refuge.]
Tu mera hi saaya
Main teri hi chhaaya
Main tere bina zaaya
Ragon mein bahaa tu
Nazar mein rahaa tu
Magar naa nazar aaya
You are my image only,
I am your shadow only,
I am useless without you..
You flowed in my veins,
You remained in my sight,
But couldn't be seen.
Tujh se hi chal ke main guzra
Tujh pe hi aa thehra re
De tu mujh ko main tujh ko
Jaata kya hai mera
I moved, walking on you only,
and came back to you again..
You give to me and I give to you again,
what do I lose in that?
Ye kaisi hai teri aankh micholi
Mujhe ghar le ja humjoli
Dil darbadar mera dil darbadar
Dil darbadar mera dil darbadar
Main shaakhon se toota
Hawaoon se rootha
Udaa ja raha hoon kahaan
Aa jaaun kahin main
Khiloonga wahin main
Mile mujh ko tu jahaan..
Broken from branches (of trees),
angry with winds,
where am I going?
Wherever I reach,
I will only blossom-
where you meet me..
Aa mil ja mujh se main kab se dekhoon teri raahein
Beeta ek arsa main tarsa ab khol de baahein
Come, meet me, for long I have been waiting for you..
A long time has passed, I am agonized, now open your arms..
Ye kaisi hai teri aankh micholi
Mujhe ghar le ja humjoli
Dil darbadar mera dil darbadar
Dil darbadar mera dil darbadar
Dil darbadar hai..
Darbadar.. darbadar dil hai
Hai dil darbadar
Dil darbadar hai...
My heart is homeless, seeking refuge..

Chaar Kadam Bas Char Kadam Lyrics Translation | PK
Movie: PK
Music: Shantanu Moitra
Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire
Singer: Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal
Music Label: T-Series
This one is a light, romantic love song where, well, to tell in short, the lover offers his girl-to-be all the sun, moon and sky along with his life, and she accepts the offer. :)
Bin poochhe mera naam aur pataa
Rasmon ko rakh ke pare
Chaar kadam bas chaar kadam
Chal do naa saath mere..
Without asking my name and address,
keeping customs aside,
a few steps, just a few steps,
please walk with me..
[chaar kadam would literally mean 'four steps', but the intention here is to say 'a few steps', walk a little with me.]
Bin kuch kahe, bin kuch sune
Haathon mein haath liye
Chaar kadam bas char kadam
Chal do na saath mere
Without saying anything, without listening to anything,
taking hands in hands,
a few steps, just a few steps,
please walk with me..
Raahon mein tum ko jo dhoop sataaye
Chhaaon bichha denge hum
Andhere Daraayein to jaa kar falak pe
Chaand sajaa denge hum
Chhaaye udaasi lateefe suna kar
Tujh ko hansa denge hum
Hanste hansaate yoon hi gungunaate
Chal denge chaar kadam
If there is sun troubling you on any path,
I'll spread shades..
If there are darknesses frighten you, I'll go to the sky
and adorn the sky with moon..
If there is sadness coming over, I'll tell you jokes,
and make you laugh..
Laughing and making the other laugh, humming like that,
we'll walk these four steps..
[Here he basically compares life to four steps, i.e. a journey of a few steps.]
Tumsa mile jo koi rehguzar
Duniya se kaun Darey
Chaar kadam kya saari umar
Chal dungi saath tere
If one finds a partner like you,
who would be afraid of the world,
what's four steps, I'll walk with you
for entire life..
[Rehguzar is mostly used for the path taken, or a preferred path. Here, though, it seems the word is used for a co-passenger, someone who travels with you, and hence a partner when you talk about the journey of life.]

Tinga Tinga Nanga Punga Dost Lyrics Translation | PK
Movie: PK
Music: Shantanu Moitra
Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire
Singer: Shreya Ghoshal
Music Label: T-Series
A light, fun song that talks about the main protagonist of the film PK.
Bhaagi bhaagi zindagi re
Peeche peechhe main chali re
Nayi raahein naye naye mod
Anjaani gali mein mila aawara sa banjaara sa
Tinga Tinga nanga punga dost
See, life is running,
and I go behind it, (like, I follow it)
New paths, all new turns,
On an unknown street, I found a vagrant, wandering,
little, kinda naked friend..
Aaya hai kahaan se wo
Kya dhoondne wo aaya hai
Ek boond bhi usney na pee
Par PK wo kehlaaya hai
From where has he come,
and to find what has he come?
He didn't drink a single drop (of alcohol),
and yet he is called PK
[PeeKay in Hindi would mean, having drunk. For detail, see PK Meaning HERE.]
Tinga-Tinga nanga-punga
Tinga-Tinga nanga-punga dost
Kabhi lagta hai joker hai wo, kabhi lagta loafer
Chor uchakka nipat anaaRi science ka professsor
Sometimes it seems he's a Joker, sometimes he looks like a loafer,
(and at times) some thief, complete novice, or even a professor of science..
Duniya nashe mein talli thi
Ye hosh mein usey laaya tha
tharra de jo poori dharti ko
Wo sawaal usne uthaaya tha
The world was drunk under an intoxication,
he had brought it back to consciousness..
One that would make the whole world shake,
that question he had asked..
Tinga-Tinga-nanga-punga
Tinga-Tinga-nanga-punga
Tinga-Tinga-nanga-punga dost
Muskaane ka gur bhi sikhaaya
Peena sikhaaya gham
Yaadein karoDon jis ne di
Usey kaise bhulaayein hum
He taught the skill of smiling,
and taught how to drink sorrows..
The one who gave crores of memories.. [crore = 10 million]
How do we forget him..
Tareekh mein aisa koi na aaya hai na aaya tha
Ek boond bhi usne na pee
par PK wo kehlaya tha
In history, no one such has come, or ever had..
He didn't ever drink a drop
but he was called PK..
Tinga Tinga nanga punga
Tinga Tinga nanga punga
Tinga Tinga nanga punga dost
aaya hai kahan se wo
Kya doondhne wo aaya hai
Ik boond bhi usney na pi
Par PK woh kehlaya hai

Bhagwan Hai Kahan Re Tu Lyrics Translation | PK
Movie: PK
Music: Shantanu Moitra
Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire
Singer: Sonu Nigam
Music Label: T-Series
A song about a person who is looking for God, doing the best he can do in life, and yet not getting what he wishes for, as he desperately asks God where He is.
Probably The best, and certainly the most intense song of PK, 'Bhagwaan..' sounds a little like Jaane nahi denge tujhe from 3 Idiots, but the subject is different, Swanand Kirkire's lyrics are lovely again, and hence, the overall offering is very different. Sonu Nigam finds yet another gem, something close to Abhi Mujh mein kahin in terms of intensity and of course, he sings it wonderfully. Must listen, highly recommended.
Hai suna ye poori dharti tu chalata hai
Meri bhi sun le araj, mujhe ghar bulaata hai
Bhagwan hai kahaan re tu, aye khuda hai kahan re tu
I've heard that you run the whole world,
Listen to my prayer too, my home calls me,
O Lord, where are you? O God, where are you?
Hai suna tu bhatke mann ko raah dikhata hai
Main bhi khoya hoon mujhe ghar bulata hai
Bhagwaan hai kahaan re tu, aye khuda hai kahan re tu
I have heard that you show the path to the lost hearts,
I am lost too, my home calls me back..
O Lord, where are you? O God, where are you?
Main pooja karoon, ya namaazein padhoon
Ardaas karoon din rain
Na tu mandir mile, na tu girje mile
Tujhe dhoondhein thake mere nain
Should I worship you (like Hindus do), or should I offer you a namaaz (like Muslims do)
Should I offer an ardaas
(like Sikhs do, all of these religions are not mentioned explicitly, and the meaning here is not specific to these religions, but the point made is about that a man simply doesn't know what he can do to find you.)
You are neither found in the temple, nor in the Church,
my tired eyes look for you...
Tujhe dhoondhein thake mere nain
Tujhe dhoondhen thake mere nain
Jo bhi rasmein hai wo saari, main nibhaata hoon
In karoDon ki tarah main sir jhukata hoon
Bhagwan hai kahan re tu, aye khuda hai kahan re tu
all the customs that are there (to find you), I follow them all,
I bow my head to you, like these crores, [crore = 10 million]
O Lord, where are you? O God, where are you?
Tere naam kayi, tere chehre kayi
Tujhe paane ki raah hain kai..
Har raah chala, par tu na mila
Tu kya chaahe main samjha nahi
You have many names, you have many faces,
there are many ways to find you..
I walked on all those paths, but couldn't find you..
I didn't understand what is it that you want..
Soche bin samjhe jatan karta hi jaata hoon
Teri zid sar-aankhon par rakh ke nibhaata hoon
Bhagwan hai kahan re tu, aye khuda hai kahaan re tu
I keep on trying, without thinking or understanding,
I follow your insistence with all due respect..
O Lord, where are you? O God, where are you?
[Though not explicitly said, the first line of the above paragraph can be interpreted as following the Bhagwadgita, which asks you to keep on doing your duty, without worrying or thinking about the results. Here the protagonist too says that he keeps on trying, following the customs and ways to find God, though here he seems to have lost his patience as he desperately asks God where He is.]

Tharki Chokro Lyrics Translation | PK
Movie: PK
Music: Ajay-Atul
Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire
Singer: Swaroop Khan
Music Label: T-Series
Tharki as such means lewd, lascivious, pervert. However, here the person who is called Tharki seems to be doing such things because of his naivety, his innocence one can say, or simply his ignorance of the ways of the world, and hence, though he's called pervert here, he's considered sweet and innocent, while tharki, which means lewd, has become a way to call him, like a nickname maybe.
The song is a fun song with the Rajasthani dialect of Hindi in there. The singer, Swaroop Khan, is a Rajasthani folk singer, who has appeared in reality show Indian Idol.
Aayo re aayo re bhaaya rangeelo mehmaan
Chhora chhori farak na samjhe
Maare sab pe chhalaang..
O brothers, a colorful guest has come,
he doesn't differentiate between boy and girl
he just jumps on everybody...
Marwayega tu.. Tharki!
Pitwayega tu.. Tharki!
Mat kar, mat kar, mat kar, mat kar
Arrey ra ra ra ra...
Tharki chhokro aayo re ban ke mharo mehmaan
you'll get me in trouble, O lascivious boy,
You'll get me beaten up, O lewd boy..
don't do this, don't do all this..
..... [doesn't mean anything]
the lewd boy has come here, as my guest..
Ho panchrangi poshaak pehen tu kaun gaaon se aayo
Tu Patna se ya Paatan se ya Patiala se aayo..
wearing this five colored dress, from which village have you come?
Have you come from Patna or from Paatan or from Patiala?
[They are all names of places.]
Tera naam to hoga bhaaya re
Jo school mein tha likhwaaya re
You must have a name, o brother,
that you would have got registered in your school, right?
Tera koi pata to hoga, hoga ration card..
Are baadal cheer ke tapka tu ya aaya dharti phaad..
There must be an address of yours, some ration card
[a identity card that is used for rationing of food in India, though it's become kind of obsolete in urban India.]
Have you come down [from the sky] tearing the clouds apart, or have you come tearing the earth..
Marwayega tu.. Tharki!
Pitwayega tu.. Tharki!
Mat kar, mat kar, mat kar, mat kar
Ara ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra...
Tharki chokro aayo re ban ke mhaaro mehmaan
tu duniya mein akelo hai
Humein fikar ghani sataave re
Tujhe Amma Taai apni Lugaai
Kuch bhi yaad na aave re..
You are alone in the world,
I get worried about that a lot.
You don't remember anyone -
your mother, aunts or your wife..
Tu jaiso bhi hai bhaaya re
Tane yaar hum ne banaya re
However you are,
I have made you a friend..
Achchha hai jo kho gayi yaadein
Jhagda na takraar..
Arey na to kisi se lena-dena
Na koi sar pe udhaar
This is good that you have lost memories,
There are no fights and quarrels..
No dealing with anybody,
nor any loans to pay..
Pyaaro tu laage.. Tharki
Bholo tu laage.. Tharki
Mat kar, mat kar, mat kar, mat kar
Ara ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra...
Tharki chhokro aayo re ban ke mhaaro mehmaan
You look lovable, O pervert,
You look innocent, O pervert.
Don't do this,
this lewd boy has come as my guest..
Aayo re, aayo re aayo rangeelo mehmaan re
Maare re, maare re chhoro sab pe chalaang
My colorful guest is here,
The boy jumps on everyone..
Tharki chhokro aayo re banke mhaaro mehmaan
Ajab chokro aayo re.. Tharki!
Gajab chokro aayo re.. Tharki!
Tharki chokro aayo re banke mhaaro mehmaan..
this lewd boy has come as my guest..
this strange boy has come.. pervert!
this awesome boy has come.. pervert!
this lewd boy has come as my guest..

You look innocent, O pervert.
